Use A Tomato Scooper

Remove tomato cores with a tomato scooper.

Preparing fresh tomatoes may be time-consuming, but when you finish coring and slicing tomatoes, they will be ready to use in a fresh or cooked dish. Although coring a tomato with a knife is effective, consider streamlining your prep work by using a tomato scooper. This handy gadget makes quick work of removing the center stem and core from fresh tomatoes. Add this to my Recipe Box.

Instructions

1. Place the fresh tomatoes into the colander and wash them with cool water.

2. Transfer the clean tomatoes to the cutting board for coring and slicing.

3. Grasp the tomato scoop by the handle and insert the teeth of the scoop directly over the stem area of the tomato.

4. Push the teeth of the scoop into the top of the tomato. As you push, twist the scoop to separate the core from the rest of the tomato.

5. Pull the tomato scoop away from the tomato and discard the core.

6. Slice the tomato in half from the top to the bottom.

7. Scoop out the seeds from the tomato halves, if you desire. Insert the teeth of the scoop into the seedy area of the cut tomato and scoop out the seeds. Discard the seeds.

8. Use the cored and seeded tomatoes for your recipe.
