Quest Games For Kids

Quest games involve players exploring colorful worlds full of puzzles and dangers.

Quest games have their origins in the role-playing and adventure video games of the 1980s and '90s, such as the Legend of Zelda series and its ilk, in which players set out to collect items to achieve a specific in-game goal. Quest games in the 21st century are available through many Internet sites and are typically played in a browser window. With quest games having simple but entertaining game-play, many are intended for kids.

Titanic Expedition Game

This browser game is set aboard the wreck of the cruise liner the Titanic, and tests players’ ability to look for hidden objects as they explore what’s left of the ship. There are 14 missions in all, with each taking place in different rooms within the submerged vessel; kids are asked to scan the screen for specific items from a list and click on them to retrieve the item. However, oxygen is limited, which means to complete each quest, kids have to possess fast reflexes to beat the timer.

Magic Quest

This game is set in a medieval fantasy world, and finds the player taking on the mantle of a hero whose task it is to find the Water of Life. The game offers simple and colorful gameplay with a top-down camera view, with the player moving their character around with the keyboard. The character must avoid enemies and hazards such as pits on his way across more than 80 areas. Items are available that will help the character, such as potions and books of knowledge.

Cyberchase

This quest game has been produced by American broadcasting service PBS and is set in an intergalactic reality, with kids taking on the role of an agent set in the task of stopping the evil "Hacker" character. There are four missions to complete, with several different characters for players to choose from. On each mission, the player is sent a list of items to collect to progress through the game; these items can be retrieved through exploring the game world by clicking the mouse on the square you’d like your character to move to. The world of Cyberchase is vast, with kids having to make use of skills such as mathematics to solve the puzzles featured in the game.

Kimma’s Jungle Quest

This is a simple adventure game which allows players to take control of the blue-skinned Kimma, who is tasked with retrieving a package currently stranded in the middle of the jungle. In terms of game-play, it is similar to the iconic Pac-Man computer games, with the player guiding her character through a maze which is viewed from above, attempting to avoid a monster. Players can accumulate points along the way by collecting garbage found throughout the jungle.
