Rescue A Pug In Alabama

Snorting, twirling, comical pugs are wonderful companions. Pugs will lift your spirits with their crazy antics. It is hard to believe that such delightful dogs end up homeless, but sadly, many do. Like other pets, pugs can lose their homes through no fault of their own. There are homeless pugs in Alabama animal shelters and pet rescue groups based in Alabama frequently have pugs that need homes. Rescuing a pug from a shelter will save a life and may be one of the most rewarding things you can do.

Instructions

1. Foster a dog from Alabama Pug Rescue.& Adoption or Southeast Pug Rescue & Adoption. Rescue groups use foster homes to provide a safe haven for dogs until they find a permanent home. Most rescues pay the foster dog’s veterinary bills and sometimes food while the foster provides love, affection, basic training and shelter. Fostering dogs saves animals' lives.

2. Look up rescue groups and shelters online. PetFinder maintains a list of active organizations in Alabama. The list is searchable by city so it should be easy to find a nearby rescue group.

3. Visit local animal shelters to see whether there are pugs that need to be rescued. Alabama animal shelters can be well run with an active adoption program such as Birmingham’s Save Our Strays, one of the leading no-kill advocates in the United States. Shelters can also be poorly staffed and not geared toward adoption, so if you see a pug in a shelter, speak up that you want to adopt the dog.

4. Use Craigslist to connect with an active Alabama pet community. If you respond to an ad, make certain that the pug needs to be rescued and is not a dog being sold by a breeder. Rescue dogs will be rehomed for a fee under $100. Breeders sell pugs for $300 or more. Do not go alone to see a dog and, if possible, meet in a busy public place such as a pet food store parking lot.

5. Take your rescue dog to a veterinarian for a full checkup. If fostering for a rescue group, find out whether to vet work has been done. Ask the Alabama Veterinary Medical Association for a referral.
