Dog parks are safe, fenced-in places where your canine pal can play.
Whether you live in the New Jersey Shore's beautiful Wildwoods area or are among the throngs of tourists who visit each year, it's a special kind of fun to get outdoors with your dog. While you can walk anywhere---except the boardwalk---with your dog on a leash, there are few places where you can take your dog off leash and let him run off his energy. The Wildwoods area does not have its own dog park, but there are places nearby where you can take your dog to play.
Ocean City Dog Park
Ocean City is a few minutes up the Garden State Parkway North from Wildwood. When heading southbound on West Avenue in Ocean City, turn right onto 45th Street and look for the Dog Park sign on your right. The parking lot will be located on your right. Handicapped-accessible parking is available. Apply at Ocean City Hall for a Paw Pass, an access card for which you must provide proof of a municipal license from wherever your dog lives, and sign a liability waiver form. The passes are available on residential, out-of-county and weekly bases.

City of Cape May Dog Park
The City of Cape May is home to a dog park on Lafayette Street. The Cape May Dog Friendly Association runs the park. Dog owners must purchase a pass from City Hall to use it. Call Cape May City Hall at (609) 884-9525 for more information.
Dog-Friendly Beaches
The Jersey Shore has one thing that's unique and special: At certain times, the beaches are dog-friendly. Call the municipality to check before taking your dog to the beach, or you might be ejected or even fined. In general, Ocean City allows dogs from Oct. 1 to April 30. Avalon and Stone Harbor allow dogs anytime between Oct. 1 and Feb. 28. North Wildwood allows dogs from Sept. 16 to May 14. Cape May Beaches allow dogs from November through February. At Higbee Beach Wildlife Management Area in Cape May, dogs on leash are allowed year-round.
