Jobs For Kids Age Eleven

Get a newspaper route.

Jobs teach kids about responsibility, hard work and the value of a dollar. If your 11 year old wants money for a new video game, bike or other toy, suggest he find a job so he can earn money and pay for the item himself. While 11 may be too young to work for a business or company, your child can find plenty of other employment.

Wash Cars

Have your 11 year old set up his own car washing business to earn extra spending money. He only needs soap, water, a bucket and some rags. If you live in a safe neighborhood where you know your neighbors, your kid can go door to door asking neighbors if they'd like their car washed for a certain amount of money. He should do this on a weekend when more neighbors are likely to be home. He can perform this job year-round if he wants or just when the weather is nice during the spring, summer and fall seasons.

Yard Work

Yard work makes a great job for an 11 year old to perform all year-round. In the spring, he can help neighbors and family friends get their gardens ready by planting bulbs and putting down soil. In the summer, he can mow lawns, weed gardens and trim bushes. The autumn brings falling leaves that need to be raked again and again. He can shovel the snow from driveways, walkways and sidewalks in the winter. If he does a good job, he'll have repeat customers for each season.

Tutor

If your child excels in a certain subject, he can make money by tutoring his peers or younger kids in English, science, math or history. To find work, talk to the school or the child's teacher to see if they can recommend someone in need of help. Post an advertisement for tutoring services on a school bulletin boards. Or, he can ask his friends if they need help in any particular subject. If your 11 year old plays an instrument, draws or excels at a sport, he could also tutor other kids in those areas.

Work with Animals

Children who like animals can earn money as a dog walker or pet sitter. If your kid wants to be a dog walker, she must be responsible, punctual and willing to clean up after the animal. Depending on the size of the dogs, she may be able to walk more than one at once. Kids who become pet sitters must play with the animals, feed them, bush them and possibly be responsible for giving them medication. To find a dog walker or pet sitting job, your 11 year old can talk to neighbors and friends, or post an advertisement at the local vet's office, grocery store or pet supply store.
