Remember Names And Faces

It can be embarrassing to forget the name of someone you've just met.

Forgetting the name of someone you've just met can be awkward and uncomfortable. If you're a business executive, nightclub promoter or just someone who loves to socialize, you may find yourself meeting many new people every day. If you don't want to risk offending a networking contact or potential new friend by calling him by the wrong name, it's important to work on name- and face-recognition techniques.

Instructions

1. Use the person's name right away. If you're introduced to someone named Mark, respond by saying, "Nice to meet you, Mark," as opposed to simply saying, "Nice to meet you." As you continue the conversation, address him by his first name when asking questions about what he does for a living or if he has any interesting plans for the weekend.

2. Ask to exchange business cards if you're at a business-related function. Once you're handed the card, take a good look at it and then look at the person again. Try to associate an element of the card with that person.

3. Look for distinct features. If you meet someone who has bright red hair or a uniquely shaped nose, use those characteristics to help you remember him.

4. Try to associate the person with someone you already know. If you meet someone named Julie who has dark brown hair and green eyes, she may remind you of your friend Amanda, who has similar features. Immediately begin repeating over and over in year head that Julie looks like Amanda. Next time you see her, a light bulb should go off in your head that says, "Here comes Julie, the woman who looks just like Amanda."

5. Inquire about the person's name. If she has an unusual name ask, her to spell it.
