The History Of The New York Adoption Star

The Adoption Star has successfully placed over 400 children with new families.

The Adoption Star (Support, Training, Advocacy and Resources) is an adoption agency that operates in New York, Florida and Ohio, matching families looking for children with pregnant mothers. The agency staff are all experienced in providing support and advice through this traumatic time.

Early Days

The Adoption Star was founded in 2000 by Michelle Fried, who remains the company's chief executive today. Michelle had previously worked as a teacher before founding her first adoption agency in the Pennsylvania and New Jersey region in 1989. She and her family then moved to New York and Michelle noticed that the city was lacking an advocacy-based and not-for profit adoption agency, so the decision was made to establish Adoption Star.

Progress

Adoption Star now employs over twenty staff in their three offices in New York, Ohio and Florida. In April 2010, ten years after the agency was set up, they successfully arranged their 400th adoption. Over time, Adoption Star has expanded to arrange adoptions from overseas, involving countries such as Bulgaria, Hungary and Haiti.

Future Expansion

Adoption Star aims to open new agencies in other states throughout the US, to export their passionate belief in supportive adoption to other hopeful adoptive families and pregnant women. Michelle Fried, the founder and CEO, has also spoken of her desire to expand their international operations, especially in Haiti now that the adoption process has again been authorized following the chaos of the earthquake in 2010.
