Get a Georgia identification card to cast your vote in elections.
On voting day in Georgia, all citizens must show identification to cast a vote. Georgia allows several forms of identification, including drivers' licenses and passports. This poses a problem for those who don't travel or drive, whether by choice or due to license suspension or revocation. Georgia offers another option to people who need identification. The Georgia Department of Driver Services issues an identification card acceptable for voting and other identification purposes.
Instructions
1. Bring your birth certificate to get a Georgia identification card.
Get your birth certificate or passport. The Georgia Department of Community Health issues copies of birth certificates---obtain a copy from them if necessary. In addition to a passport, certificates of birth registration or certified adoption records are accepted. For naturalized citizens, produce your Immigration ID card or a certified copy of your naturalization records. Document any name changes with certified copies of the relevant legal documents; for example, your marriage license or adoption records.
2. Prove that you live in Georgia. Georgia law allows many documents to be used for proof of residency. Produce a utility bill, lease or mortgage contract. Work-related proof of residency includes your paycheck stub, your W-2 or a letter from your employer. Tax documents, such as property tax or income tax records, may be used. School records and Medicare and Medicaid statements are other ways to prove Georgia residency.
3. Provide your Social Security number. Georgia does not require you to bring your Social Security card, but you must provide your number to get an identification card.
4. Keep your money in your wallet if you are getting a Georgia identification card for voting.
Have the current fees to get a Georgia identification card. Check the Georgia Department of Driver Services Fees FAQ section for current fees. If you want to get a Georgia identification card in order to vote, you must complete the Georgia "Affidavit for Identification Card for Voting Purposes" to have the fees waived. In order to qualify, register to vote.
5. Take your documents and fees, if applicable, to the nearest Georgia driver's license customer service centers. A customer service representative will record your information, take your picture and issue your Georgia identification card.
