Pick Out A Slab Of Granite

Black granite

Granite is a natural stone that comes in varying patterns and colors. No two pieces of granite are exactly the same. Some slabs of granite, depending on the pattern and color are easier to match than others. The best way to pick out a slab of granite is to go to a show room or warehouse that has the actual slabs available to choose from. Granite slabs can look very different in a larger piece than in any small sample at a store. When choosing a slab or slabs of granite, it is important to have measurements on hand and to know exactly how many slabs will be need for the project. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Unique granite piece

Choose slabs of granite for a project based on quantity so as to get the closest match possible in dye-lot and pattern. Granite is a natural stone, so from lot to lot the color and pattern may change slightly or quite a bit, so it is important to select all of the slabs together at one time. This is not an issue if only one slab is needed.

2. Common granite slab

Inspect the granite slab thoroughly for any cracks or chips. Granite, depending on the style of the stone may have veins or spots in places that will not be attractive for a particular project.

3. Granite tiles

Request a sample piece of granite from the actual slab that is of interest and take it to the project where it is going to be installed. It is important to have a sample of the actual granite slab not random samples that the store or warehouse has laying about.

4. Granite slab around a bath tub

Purchasing granite in larger quantities may help to bring the price down. If only one slab or half a slab is needed for the project most warehouses have random slaps left over from other jobs or pieces that are too unique to match anything else. These slabs can be purchased at a greater discount.
