Get Access To An Administrator Account In Xp

For the safety of your computer, the Administrator account is generally not shown when you log in to Windows XP. In this way, you always have an account available with administrative privileges to log in to for troubleshooting if your computer has a problem. However, if you are an advanced user, you may prefer to have the ability to log in to the Administrator account without booting your computer in Safe Mode. Make a change in your computer's registry to allow the Administrator account to be available on the Windows XP Welcome screen.


Instructions


1. Log in to Windows XP using your regular user account.


2. Hit the Windows logo and "R" keys on the keyboard simultaneously to bring up the "Run" dialog box. Type "regedit" without the quotation marks in the box and hit "Enter." This will launch the Windows Registry Editor.


3. Click the plus-sign icons on the left side of the screen to navigate through the folders of the Registry. Navigate to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE," "SOFTWARE," "Microsoft," "Windows NT," "CurrentVersion," "Winlogon," "SpecialAccounts" and "UserList."


4. Right-click in the open area on the right side of the window and click "New" and "DWORD Value." Type "Administrator" and hit "Enter."


5. Double-click the new value that you created. Change the number shown under "Value data" from "0" to "1" and click "OK."


6. Restart your computer. The Administrator account is now available for you to log in to.
