Charity Events For Animals

Charity events raise money for the care and placement of homeless animals.

Organizations throughout the United States hold charity events to raise money for animals and animal welfare. National organizations like The Humane Society of the United States and North Shore League America hold major fund-raising endeavors as well as grassroots events throughout the country. Smaller, more localized organizations also schedule activities and events to benefit shelters, rescues and programs for the care and protection of animals.

Humane Society

The Humane Society of the United States is the largest animal welfare organization in the country. Among its many efforts, it provides animal advocacy, animal rescue and wildlife rehabilitation. Conferences are held annually to promote the organization's goals and educate people who wish to help. Annual fund-raising events include the Humane Society Walk for the Animals and Walk Humane. You can take your dog with you to these events. Proceeds from these activities support adoptions, spay and neuter programs, humane education and feral cat rescue. Individual states also hold events to provide local benefits. The organization also funds efforts to stop dog fighting and to eliminate puppy mills.

North Shore

North Shore Animal League is a no-kill animal adoption and rescue organization in Port Washington, New York. It offers pet health care, adoptions and dog training. Annual fund-raising events include the Race to Save Animals marathon and the DogCatemy Celebrity Gala. Proceeds from participants, sponsors and donors provide support to North Shore's efforts in rescue, adoption and education.

Humane Society of North Myrtle Beach

The Pet Food Pro-Am Golf Tournament collected pet food to benefit the Humane Society of North Myrtle Beach. Tournament participants were required to donate 100 pounds of pet food in addition to the $20 tournament fee. The South Carolina-based society received 9 tons of pet food from the event to feed shelter animals. The Humane Society of North Myrtle Beach works to place homeless animals, offers low-cost spay/neuter programs and teaches pet responsibility in the community.

Waccamaw Regional Veterinary Center

Another example of a local animal charity event is The Waccamaw Regional Veterinary Center in Conway, South Carolina, which raised money for its Angel Fund by taking pet photos with Santa. The Angel Fund is used to pay for pet treatments that owners can't afford.

League for Animals and People of the Summit

The League for Animals and People of the Summit is in Summit County, Colorado. It works to reduce the overpopulation of pets by providing spay and neuter programs in the area. They also offer services for low-income pet owners. Fund-raising events include an annual Canine 4K Run/Walk, pet or family photos with Santa and the Grinch, Let's Go Boating, which is a 45-minutes cruise of Lake Dillon. Dog Terra is an annual event that includes contests such as Frisbee and Chuck-It Catch, Flyball and Agility Course.
