Congratulations. You just replaced your car. Now, what are you going to do with your old one? You could sell it with a lot of hassle and not get what it's worth. Better yet, you could consider donating it to your favorite animal charity. It is simple and you get the added benefit of being able to deduct it off your income taxes.

Donate Your Car, Running or Not!
1. Select the animal charity you would like to benefit from receiving your gift.
2. Fill out the charity car donation form. This can be done online on the charity's website. There are also non-profit websites that will handle everything for you.
The car itself will not go to the charity you select. The car will be sold at auction and the funds will be sent on to the animal charity of your choice. Thus, it will not matter if the car is running or not. The information will be forwarded to a local towing company.
3. Tell the towing company when you will be available to have the car picked up. The towing company will contact you, usually by phone, though it can be by email if you prefer. The towing company will make arrangements to pick up the car. Be sure to have your title handy.
4. Meet with the tow company. They will present you with a $500 tax-deductible receipt to use on your income taxes. The car will be sold at auction. If the car brings more than $500 at the auction, you will receive an updated receipt for your taxes. If not, you will be able to use the entire $500 for your taxes.
The animal charity you specify will receive the proceeds from the sale of the car minus the expenses connected to selling it at auction.
5. Claim your deduction on your income taxes and know you did a great thing to benefit your favorite animal charity.
