Take Care Of A New Dog

A new dog requires a lot of time and preparation.

Taking care of a new dog is as challenging as taking care of a newborn infant. New dogs require your money, attention and time. Preparation is extremely vital to ensuring that your new dog makes a seamless transition in her new home.

Instructions

1. Budget your money before getting the new dog. A new dog requires someone that is financially solvent. Gather all the supplies your dog will need prior to bringing him home. Purchase items such as a collar, leash, food, water bowl and a few toys. Obtain the dog’s identification information and order an identification tag. This is crucial in case your dog runs away and someone finds him.

2. Bring your new dog home when you have a lot of free time, such as a weekend or vacation time. It is crucial to spend quality time getting to know your new friend.

3. Ensure the dog is healthy to prevent long-term illness, viruses and diseases. Get him an overall health examination by a veterinarian. This is especially important if he is a stray or coming from a shelter. The veterinarian will ensure the dog receives all the necessary vaccinations and shots. Get the dog sprayed and neutered if you do not want to take care of additional pets.

4. Create a schedule tailored around the needs of the new dog. The schedule or dog care regimen should include house rules, if you intend to keep the dog indoors. Include duties such as when you will walk the dog, when to feed her and when to groom her. Delegate the duties to members of your household.

5. Train your dog to be obedient. Speak with a loud, disapproving voice when he misbehaves. Never resort to physically punishing your dog. Reward your dog with treats when he does well.
