Second Chance Boxer Rescue
Second Chance Boxer Rescue serves Maine, New England, New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. The independent nonprofit has an affiliate membership with the American Boxer Rescue Association. Second Chance Boxer Rescue places approximately 250 boxers in permanent homes each year. Volunteers serve in a number of roles, including foster caretakers, phone interviewers, reference checkers and transporters.

Homeless Animal Rescue Team of Maine
Based out of Cumberland, Homeless Animal Rescue Team of Maine depends upon its volunteers to run, manage and administer the organization. The organization has no paid staff and focuses on rescuing, caring for and placing cats in permanent homes. Volunteer positions include cleaners, intake coordinator, day manager, adult adoption coordinator, morning medication technician, foster families for kittens and veterinarian appointment transporters. HART volunteers must fill out an application and accept the HART Code of Conduct.

Maine Audubon Society
Affiliated with the National Audubon Society, the Maine Audubon Society seeks volunteers to survey bird populations along a number of rivers, including the Penobscot, Kennebec, Saco, Androscoggin, Sheepscot, Damariscotta, Medomak, St. George, Orland, Union, Narraguagus, Pleasant, Machias and St. Croix. The organization will provide training to volunteers, and the volunteer must commit to conducting 20-minute surveys twice per month for nearly a year. Prospective volunteers must have "intermediate or higher" birding skills. Other volunteer opportunities with Maine Audubon are conservation assistant at Gilsland Farm Audubon Center in Falmouth, volunteer biologists in southern Maine and citizen scientists statewide.
