Experience
A new veterinarian with little experience will make less than a more qualified vet. As of November 2010, a vet fresh out of college can make anywhere from $50,000 to $70,000, according to PayScale.com. A vet with one to four years experience may make $55,000 to $75,000 a year, and a vet with more than five years experience can make from $65,000 to $85,000 a year.
Specialty
A veterinarian who treats large animals exclusively made an average of $61,029 in 2007. Vets treating large and small animals made $52,254, and equine vets made $40,130 in 2007, according to a study by the American Veterinary Medical Association.
Region
According to PayScale.com, vets in California averaged the highest salaries, from $62,000 to $97,745 annually as of November 2010. Florida ranged the second highest at $86,245 yearly, and North Carolina ranged lowest from $56,000 to $77,000.
