Write Grants for Animal Welfare

1. Research the history of the Animal Welfare organization you want to write a grant for. Grantmakers and Foundations that have provided funding in the past, are much more likely to provide additional funding in the future. Make a list of previous benefactors, noting key contact information, application deadlines, and other applicable information.
2. Determine the type of funding you require as well as how you will use the money. Some Foundations and Grantmakers will give money for General Operating Support. This kind of donation allows your Animal Welfare Organization to use the money according to its own discretion. However, many have specific criterias. For example, Spay/Neuter Pprograms; Building and Facility Improvements; Humane Education; and Special Adoption Programs.
3. Narrow your list by deadline. Bear in mind that it may take longer than you think to put the entire application together. Some funders require very lengthy proposals, while others do not. Be prepared to submit a number of applications, as this is a numbers game.
