Several New Jersey colleges, such as Rutgers University, are part of the Philadelphia metropolitan area.
Philadelphia is the most populous city in Pennsylvania. The metropolitan area includes several counties in southern New Jersey such as Camden, Burlington, Gloucester and Salem. There are a number of New Jersey colleges and universities in the Philadelphia region, including Rutgers University, Rowan University, Camden County College and The College of New Jersey.
Rutgers University
Rutgers, a research-focused institution and the state university of New Jersey, has a campus in Camden, just two miles east of Philadelphia. Rutgers awards undergraduate and graduate degrees in arts, sciences and business, as well as law degrees from the School of Law. The university also offers joint-degree programs, and competes in 15 NCAA Division III intercollegiate sports. As of 2011, New Jersey resident tuition is $12,560 for commuters and $23,466 for on-campus students. Nonresident tuition is $24,316 for commuters and $35,222 for on-campus students, while tuition for international students is also $35,222.
Rowan University
Rowan University is located in Glassboro, about 22 miles south of Philadelphia. It also has a campus in Camden, which shares a building with Camden County College. Rowan offers undergraduate degrees in the fields of business, communication, education, engineering, fine and performing arts, liberal arts, science and medicine. As of 2011, undergraduate tuition and fees are $5,838 per semester for New Jersey residents, and $9,517 per semester for nonresidents. The School of Graduate and Continuing Education offers master's degrees in business, education, engineering management and school administration, as well as a doctoral degree in educational leadership.
The College of New Jersey
The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) is situated on a 289-acre campus in Ewing Township, approximately 35 miles northeast of Philadelphia. It has an enrollment of about 6,200 undergraduate students and is actively involved in NCAA Division III women's and men's athletics. TCNJ features courses in seven areas: arts and communication, business, education, culture and society, health, science and engineering. It offers more than 50 liberal arts and professional trajectories of study, including undergraduate and graduate degrees as well as certificate programs.
Camden County College
Camden County College has three locations. From Philadelphia, the Camden campus is three miles, the Cherry Hill campus is 12 miles and the Blackwood campus 13 miles. The college offers programs in math, science, health, business, computers, technology, arts, humanities and social sciences. It has an enrollment of 30,000 credit students, along with thousands of noncredit students, and also offers a distance education program. As of 2011, resident tuition is $96 per credit, while tuition is $100 per credit for nonresidents and $170 per credit for international students.
