Make A Website Like Webkinz

Webkinz and other virtual world websites attract many users.

The Webkinz website connects a physical product purchase with an avatar in an online virtual world. Each Webkinz toy comes with a unique product code number that, when entered during the website registration process, allows the purchaser to create an online avatar for playing in the Webkinz massively multiplayer online game (or MMOG). To make a website like Webkinz, you'll need to track product code numbers attached to a physical product, provide a registration process for purchasers of the products and offer a massively multi-player virtual game world for your members to explore and interact with.

Instructions

1. Create a database for storing product codes and member information. At the heart of a website like Webkinz is a large database that stores product codes and member account information, such as username, password, age and gender. Create a similar database to store your product codes before they are registered and also to store member information and link the member information to a product code after the code is registered.

2. Generate product codes and attach to products. Using a manual or automated method, generate product codes and store them in your database. Attach each product code to a product. For example, each Webkinz plush toy has a tag that can be pulled out to reveal its product code.

3. Design a member registration page. Your customers will need to register their product codes through your website. The new member registration page has fields for gathering information about each new member. These fields correspond to the member information fields in your database.

4. Develop a massively multiplayer online virtual world. Once registered, your member will want something engaging or fun to do. Create a virtual world that members will enjoy exploring and where they can interact with other members. The virtual world can include tasks to complete, games to play, a money or currency system and stores.

5. Test your website. Once your virtual world is in place, test each aspect of the user experience provided by your website. From registration to playing games, test each feature to ensure that it meets your website goals. If any feature doesn't work properly, go back and rework the software for that feature to correct the problem.
