Buy A Mini Pig

The smaller the mini pig, the bigger the purchase price.

Ever since Paris Hilton purchased a potbelly "teacup pig," pet lovers have turned their attention to this new breed of pet. The Internet has given breeders of these "mini pigs" access to a worldwide market, allowing negotiation via email, picture and video until a purchase agreement can be made.

Mini Pigs

Sometimes referred to as micro, mini or teacup pigs, mini pigs weigh from 20 to 30 pounds and are intelligent, mischievous and looking for attention. A number of breeders maintain websites that give specific information on the animal's needs to help you determine if this is the type of pet for your household.

Websites

Many breeders sell their mini pigs through websites (see Resources). Some of the most popular sites are Teacup Piggies, Teacup Pigs for Sale and the site representing the place where Paris Hilton purchased her pig, Royal Dandies.

Price

Mini pigs, like purebred dogs, can be very expensive. Typically the smaller the breed, the higher the price. While regular potbelly pigs can be purchased for as little as $150, the smallest, "royal dandies," can run from $4,000 to $4,500.

Other Considerations

Because you are purchasing a live animal, factors to consider include the age at which the pig may be weaned from its mother and shipped, shipping restrictions, care instructions and refund policies should there be any health problems. Contact the breeder and understand these details before committing to the purchase.
