Update ownership information.
Identifying your pet with a microchip ID lowers the odds of losing the pet. Microchips are permanent ID solutions that contain no power source on their own so they cannot break or wear out. Pet microchips are designed and sold by various manufacturers and can be implanted by a veterinarian, a clinic or local animal control departments. The size of a grain of rice, pet microchips are not removed to make updates. In fact, the chip is never removed or updated.
Instructions
1. Locate the registration information provided at the time the microchip was implanted. Activation cards listing the ID number are usually handed to the pet owner at the time the implant takes place. The pet owner is responsible for activating the chip by connecting the ID number with the owner's information.
2. Note the ID number and the information originally provided about the pet's ownership.
3. Call the registration company (the number should be on the activation card) to give them the updated home and phone number information. Keep the microchip ID number handy. This is what the customer service personnel will ask for to locate the files needing an update.
