Become A Pet Nutritionist Counselor

Pet nutritional counseling encourages healthy habits.

Many pet owners become concerned about their pet's nutritional needs. Every pet is different in its nutritional standards. Taking a pet to a nutritional counselor will help the owner understand the importance of what they are feeding their pet. A nutritional counselor can provide dietary consultation for each individual animal. Becoming a nutritional counselor for animals can be an excellent alternative to becoming a veterinarian if you love animals.

Instructions

1. Take animal nutrition classes through a local college. Call your college and ask what classes are offered. You can take classes such as animal science and nutrition. This will help you understand the formulas for feeding different types of animals. These classes will also provide you with experience that you can list on your resume.

2. Practice on your own pet. Change the diet that your pet is currently on, and monitor the progress. This will help you understand what works and what does not work. Monitor for improvements in skin, coat, and overall health. The coat should become shinier, the animal should be more energetic, and any skin irritation should be gone.

3. Volunteer your services at the local animal shelter. This will provide experience for working with a wide variety of pets. It will also show your experience on your resume.

4. Contract through pet stores. Offer to work with the pet stores food selection to make a diet for the pet. See if the pet store will agree to exchange referral information. You may want to offer a package deal that includes pet nutritional counseling and a free bag of food.
