List Of Charities In Ohio

Charities help protect both animals and humans.

Charities exist in Ohio that help those who require assistance, for example the homeless, underprivileged, disabled or abused. Plenty of nationwide and international charities exist, as do smaller local ones who specialize in helping those within a specific community or city.

The Greater Cincinnati Coalition for the Homeless

The Greater Cincinnati Coalition began working to help the city's homeless in May of 1984. It began as a group of 15 volunteers, but has grown today to have hundreds of helpers. The coalition works to provide emergency shelters, medical assistance, soup kitchens and eventually permanent housing. Funding for these projects is raised through charitable donations and fund raising events such as dinners. The charity's ultimate goal is to eradicate homelessness within Cincinnati.

Cleveland APL

The Cleveland Animal Protection League began helping animals in 1913. The charity's aim is to help prevent suffering and cruelty to animals and ultimately find them new and better homes. It is an independent society, which receives no government funding and relies of donations. Money is raised through charitable donations as well as programs like cage sponsorship. The charity also welcomes volunteers to help take care of the animals. When adopting a pet from the APL, a fee is required which goes towards the upkeep of the facility as well as the vaccinations the pet received while in the society's care.

Hope Foundation

The Hope Foundation of Greater Dayton aims to assist the city's underprivileged by creating learning opportunities for children and adults. The charity is able, with donations, to distribute almost 3,400 pounds of food a week to some of the city's poorest families. Using this as its stepping off point, the charity also wants to start sponsoring local youth sports and educational camps. Journeys of Hope is the charity's program to assist parents in gaining new qualifications while giving child care, transportation and tutorial support.

Cleveland Food Bank

The Cleveland Food Bank began helping the city's underprivileged in 1979, with a small group of civic minded locals. Some of these individuals were members of the food industry and realized how much food is wasted daily that could benefit the poor. The charity provides the vast majority of the food used in local soup kitchens, group homes and child care centers. Donations of money and non-perishable food products help to keep the charity working. Food drives and commercial donations from the food industry make up the bulk of donations. The charity also welcomes help from volunteers to help distribute to those in need.
