Collecting materials for those in need is a great way to help out. Children can set up collection stations around your community to collect a variety of items for various recipients. You can collect nonperishable can goods and food, clothing items, animal supplies, toiletries and household items; each are always in need.
Developing
Children can develop and maintain their own mini organizations that not only bring immediate assistance but long term help as well. This may include developing recycling programs; children can be responsible for planning the recycling destination spots, picking up materials to recycle and maintain a routine by which the program stays in existence. Other ideas include scheduled community cleaning projects, free services days and family fun outings to bring families together.
Planting
Children can beautify their community by planting trees and flowers. Planting can also be done in the manner of a food garden to help keep food growing for families in need. This will provide great nutrients to those who receive it and will also help to teach children grow their own food and the importance of the nutrition.
Creating
Community services can be distributed in the form of creating things. Children can come together with their families to cook dinners and bake goods, create art work and put on plays and other productions. These can all be done as a free service or something that could raise proceeds for other community efforts.
