La Plata is a small town in Charles County in southern Maryland that is about 30 miles south of Washington, D.C. The town has a few historic sites, including the La Plata Train Station, the Historical Society of Charles County Museum and the African American Heritage Society of Charles County Museum. Dog owners can take advantage of Turkey Hill Park at the north end of La Plata. The park has an off-leash enclosed dog park and water is available.
