Applying to become a police officer in New South Wales is a lengthy and difficult process. There are many steps along the way, involving enrollment in a training course, professional, health and physical fitness examinations and a period of study at the NSW Police College. Due to the high number of applicants and competitive nature of policing acceptance into the training program is not guaranteed.

Becoming A Police Officer in New South Wales
1. Visit the Charles Sturt University website and check suitability for enrollment in the Associate Degree in Policing Practice. Complete the application form to begin the assessment process.
2. Complete the Professional Suitability Application upon acceptance into the Associate Degree in Policing Practice. This process checks an applicant's professional as well as medical suitability for work as a New South Wales police officer. It includes a background and criminal check as well as a medical examination.
3. Attend an Assessment Day and complete the physical fitness and psychometric checks.
4. Wait while the NSW police assess applications for the next available ADPP intake. This process begins 1-2 months prior to the commencement of each Associate Degree in Policing Practice intake.
5. Complete a two-week (80 hour) field placement at a police station as part of the ADPP course. During this stage applicants must prove their typing and swimming abilities as well as comple a first aid certificate.
