If your furry friend turns up missing, create a flyer to help bring your dog home.
When your four-legged family member wanders away from home, make a flyer to alert local residents that your dog is missing. Use the word processor or desktop publishing program on your home computer to design a flyer that will capture the attention of your neighbors. Include a recent photograph of your dog on the flyer to help people recognize your family pet and use large, bold type to make important information stand out.
Instructions
1. Open either your word processing or desktop publishing program and create a new letter sized document. Word processing software such as Microsoft Word, or Open Office will provide adequate functionality for creating a flyer for your missing dog. Desktop publishing software, such as Microsoft Publisher or Scribus provides greater flexibility and design options for your flyer.
2. Use a large, bold typeface to type a headline on your flyer. Keep the headline of the flyer down to a single word such as "MISSING" or "LOST," and adjust the size of the headline so that it stretches across the entire width of the letter sized page.
3. Insert a photograph of your missing dog into the flyer using the graphics tools provided with your software. The headline and photograph will be the primary attention grabbers of the flyer, and should take up at least half of the letter sized piece of paper. Choose a photograph that is well lit and shows as much of the missing dog as possible so that local residents know who to be looking out for.
4. Include important information in a medium sized typeface that is clearly legible. Information such as where the dog was last seen, the time of day the dog was last accounted for, any special markings or identifiable characteristics, and the name the dog responds to. The more specific information you can give about your pet the greater the chances of someone locating him.
5. Include your contact number on the bottom portion of the flyer. Your phone number should be in type that equals the size of the headline type and should stretch across the width of the page. As an additional feature, create tear-off tabs containing your contact phone number across the bottom of the flyer so that neighbors can have your phone number handy in the event that your missing dog is located.
6. Print copies of your flyer on heavy weight paper or thin card stock and display on community bulletin boards at local supermarkets and shopping centers. Distribute the flyers for your missing dog in available locations within a 5-10 mile radius of the location where your dog was last seen.
