An ordinary white cake can easily be turned into a Littlest Pet Shop cake.
Littlest Pet Shop, a Hasbro toy franchise, features five small animals that live inside a pet shop. The franchise has been turned into a TV show and a video game available on the Wii, PlayStation 3 and Nintendo DS. Littlest Pet Shop cakes are perfect for the birthday of a boy or girl who loves the adorable pets found in the pet shop. Hasbro sells a set of Littlest Pet Shop cake toppers but you can also use ordinary Littlest Pet Shop toys, assuming you wash them thoroughly. Add this to my Recipe Box.
Instructions
1. Scoop white frosting into a plastic container and mix it with several drops of green food coloring. If you do not have green food coloring, mix a drop or two of blue food coloring with several drops of yellow food coloring until you have a hue of green you are satisfied with.
2. Spread the frosting onto the top and sides of the cake to create the appearance of grass. Though most of the toys focus on the pet shop and town, the animals in the Littlest Pet Shop game constantly frolic in the grass.
3. Slide a round frosting tip into the opening of the frosting bag. Scoop a moderate amount of green frosting into the bag. Slide the frosting towards the tip and hold the bag over the cake. Push the frosting towards the tip to squirt frosting onto the cake. Move the bag up and down to form small markings that look like blades of grass.
4. Mix frosting with a few drops of red food coloring with white icing in a plastic container and scoop the frosting into an empty tip-equipped frosting bag. Draw the shape of the Littlest Pet Shop house in one of the corners of the cake. The house looks like a small cottage with two small windows above the door.
5. Write "Happy Birthday" onto the green surface of the cake, with red icing, using the frosting bag. Add the name of the birthday girl or boy after "Happy Birthday."
6. Rinse cake toppers or toys under water and pat them dry with a towel. Place the toppers or toys on the surface of the cake, with the characters facing forward. Display them as if they are interacting with one another.
