The term "teacup" is used by dog lovers when referring to certain small dog breeds and is not recognized by the American Kennel Club. According to the Dog-Names website, the Teacup Dogs Agility Association considers any pedigree that is no taller than 17 inches at 12 months to be a teacup. Teacup Chihuahua
Teacup Chihuahuas originated in Central and South America and were originally bred for ceremonial sacrifices during ancient times. These teacup dogs typically weigh between two and six pounds and stand six to nine inches from foot to shoulder. Teacup Chihuahuas tend to bond with one person and typically aren't good with children.
Teacup Pomeranian
Teacup Pomeranians-also known as Poms or Puffballs-are known for their fluffy appearance. Their top coat is long and straight, and their undercoat is soft and fluffy. These dogs were originally bred in Germany to be lap dogs for the wealthy. Poms typically weigh between three and seven pounds and grow as tall as eight to eleven inches from foot to shoulder. Poms are high-energy dogs and should be supervised with small children.
Teacup Poodle
While the poodle's origins are still debated today, we do know that the poodle is a descendant of the now-extinct French Water Dog, the Barbet and possibly the Hungarian Water Hound. Teacup Poodles tend to be under nine inches tall and weigh less than six pounds. Poodles' coats are dense and curly and do not shed.
Teacup Yorkie
Teacup Yorkies were bred in England to hunt vermin such as mice and rats. The Teacup Yorkie typically weighs between four and seven pounds and stands eight to nine inches from foot to shoulder. The Yorkie is known for his multi-colored coat, which is blue-gray except for the chest and feet, which are often a bright tan color.
