Types Of Red Nose Pit Bulls

Red noses are a unique feature that shows up in all types of pit bulls.

Red-nosed pit bulls are thought to come from the Old Family Red Nose dogs in Ireland. Breeding from these dogs has passed on the possibility of red noses showing up in all kinds of pit bulls since. Some people seek out this unique coloring. Some hold to the idea that the only type of pit bull is the American Pit Bull Terrier. Others recognize the American Staffordshire Terrier and Staffordshire Bull Terrier as pit bulls as well.

American Pit Bull Terrier

Friendliness toward humans is a primary characteristic of this dog. They do not make good guard dogs for this reason. The dog is very powerful so obedience training and close monitoring by the owner is a must. Be firm in your commands so the dog is clear on who is in charge. This dog can climb so you'll want to have a good fence for containment.

American Staffordshire Terrier

The American Staffordshire Terrier has more of a box build than other pit bulls. This dog is loyal and may be best known as the Little Rascals' dog on their television series. It is protective of its family and task oriented. Regular exercise is needed to keep this dog active.

Staffordshire Bull Terrier

Courage and obedience define this dog. It is also highly intelligent and good with kids. This dog is low maintenance on grooming but needs constant attention with training and exercise. It was originally bred in England as a small, fast dog to help miners in Staffordshire.

Precautions

Although all of these dogs are naturally good-natured toward people, they are a strong dog and very task driven. If they do become aggressive toward another person or animal, the result could be devastating. If you have other pets or children you will need to monitor their behavior closely to make sure they get along. It is important to be aware of a pit bull's capabilities and make sure you have an environment that will limit the possibility of something bad happening.
