Obtaining Free Adoption Records In Georgia

Adoptive parents must complete a form to receive information from the adoption record.

Georgia adoption records are sealed, but adopted children and adoptive parents are eligible to receive information from the sealed adoption records, according to the Georgia Adoption Reunion Registry website. The services are provided to adoptive children for a fee and are only available after the child has reached the age of 18. Adoptive parents are eligible to obtain free non-identifying information about the birth family, such as health information, physical descriptions and reasons for adoption. If applicable, they can also find out early-childhood information on the adopted child.

Instructions

1. Fill out the Request for Non-Identifying Information form. The form requires information on the adopted child including her Social Security number, age and name. Information about the adoptive parents is also required. The adoptive parents' names, as well as the requesting parent's Social Security number and date of birth are required.

2. Have the Request for Non-Identifying Information form notarized. The completed form must be signed and dated in the presence of a Notary Public. The Notary will also ask to see your state-issued photo I.D., which is required for all adoption record requests, according to the Georgia Adoption Reunion Registry.

3. Mail your completed form to:
