Fundraiser Ideas For The Humane Society

Humane societies, pet rescues and animal shelters across the country rely on donations to stay afloat. The shelters take care of pets that need a home, providing medical care, food, toys and even grooming through volunteer efforts. Relying on donations from the community at large may not be enough to keep your local humane society functioning. Fundraiser ideas for humane societies include many ideas that use animals as a focal point.

Dog Walk Events

Sponsor a dog walk event that involves the entire community. Events of this type are similar to fun runs or 5K events, except that participants bring their dogs to run or walk with them. Ask each person who participates in the event to make a donation to the humane society. You can also encourage participants to seek donations for each mile they walk and for each mile their pet walks. Ask local businesses to donate food and drinks for those involved. You can even ask for reduced prices on T-shirts printed with the logo of the event and pass those out to runners or sell the shirts at the dog walk.

Resale Stores

If the humane society has extra space available, then turn that space into a resale store. With a resale store, people in the community donate clothing, toys, furniture, books and other used goods. The goods are displayed in the store and any money raised through purchases goes to the humane society. Use signs in front of the building to inform others that you are accepting donations and now have a store on-site.

On-Site Parties

Host parties at the humane society for pet owners to celebrate different holidays, including Easter, Christmas and Valentine's Day. Ask stores and businesses to donate food for both the pets and the pet owners. Encourage guests to bring human- and pet-friendly dishes to share at the party. Everyone that attends the event brings some type of donation, be it a financial donation or a gift of pet food needed by the organization.

Dog Wash

Ask volunteers to donate their time and hold a dog wash fundraiser at the humane society. Charge a set rate based on the size of the dog, charging more for larger dogs. Place a tip jar near the entrance, with a sign letting customers know that tips are appreciated for the hard work done. Not only do you raise money through the dog washing, but the donations as well. Offer other services for an additional charge, such as hair styling or nail clipping.
