With a 3-D virtual world, you can meet new people, earn prizes and play games. However, some 3-D virtual worlds like the Sims and World of Warcraft will charge you money to play. Instead, you can create a free virtual world with IMVU and Second Life. These virtual reality games allow you to interact with others all over the world. You have control of how you want your avatar to look and act. Signing up with these websites is free and simple.
Instructions
Second Life
1. Navigate to the Second Life website. Click the "Join Now" link.
2. Create a first name for your avatar. Think of a password you can remember to enter Second Life.
3. Select a starting look for your avatar. You can change it later. Include your email address, date of birth and a security question. Click "Create Account" when satisfied.
4. Install the Second Life software on your computer. Save the file to your desktop for easy access.
5. Follow the instructions for proper installation. You can either create a folder or use a pre-existing folder to save the software. Wait for the download to complete. This may take some time, depending on your computer or internet speed.
6. Sign into the software using your name and password. Follow the instructions in Second Life to navigate your avatar around.
IMVU
7. Go to the IMVU website. Click the "Start Now" button. Select whether you want a female or male avatar. Create a name for your avatar and a password to enter IMVU.
8. Enter your first and last name, your date of birth and your location. Click "Create IMVU Account" when satisfied.
9. Install the IMVU software to your computer. Double click the file and follow instructions for proper installation. Restart your computer once installation is complete.
10. Click "Start" and "All Programs." Select IMVU. Enter with your username and password. Create a look for your avatar. Choose hairstyles, makeup, clothing and accessories. Change the look of your room as well, if you desire.
11. Create a chat room. Click the "Chat Room" option and "Create Your Own." Choose a name and location for your chat room. Alternatively, you can click "Chat" to have a one-on-one chat with a random person.
