Games To Play With The Three Little Pigs

The Three Little Pigs is a classic literary tale that children of all ages love. Using this timeless story to educate children can be done in a variety of ways. Focusing on the many themes that the story offers, including responsibility, cause and effect and sequence are just a few of the concepts that can be used to play games.

Pig Houses

A wonderful way to get kid's creativity working is to have them create three little pig houses. This can easily be turned into a competitive game for kids. The objective to the game is to see how quickly teams can construct a house using the materials provided. A group of students are divided into three teams. Each team is given a house they must work with. Each team is then given a "house" made of an old shoebox or cardboard and a bag full of the main material for the house. For example, the house made of sticks will be given a bag full of popsicle sticks. The house made from bricks can be given foam squares. Adhesives like tape and glue should already be prepared for younger children.

Big Bad Wolf

Have kids practice the huffing and puffing of the big bad wolf by giving them a chance to relay. Students are divided into two teams. Each team is given a balloon (or a similar light-weight material). The objective is to pretend being the Big Bad Wolf and see if the students can transfer the balloon from one side of the room to the other only by huffing and puffing. This game will prove to be challenging for the kids but will also create a lot of laughter and a lot of excitement. Team members can take turns being in charge of the balloon, until everyone has had a turn. The team that has the most wins will be those that could complete the relay in the shortest amount of time.

Sequence Cards

For younger children who are still practicing their understanding of sequence of events, sequence cards can be used. The Three Little Pigs is an excellent story to practice this skill. Different events from the story can be illustrated or described in writing on a variety of index cards. The kids spread out the cards. The kids can then take turns organizing the cards into the correct order for which the events happened.
