Scholarships For Female Latinas In Southern California

Several organizations make scholarship money available to female Latinas living and studying in southern California. Some of these organizations offer scholarships only to Latinas pursuing degrees at specific institutions. Others award scholarships that may be used to pay for tuition at any university.


Orange County Hispanic Educational Endowment Fund


The Orange County Hispanic Educational Endowment Fund (HEEF) offers a variety of scholarships to females of Latino heritage who are residents of southern California. In 2011, available scholarships included the $250-$1,000 National Hispanic Business Women's Association Scholarship, the $500-$2,000 MANA De Orange County Scholarship and the $500-$1,000 Union Bank of California Scholarship. To be eligible for HEEF scholarships, applications must be received no later than March 4. Applicants should visit the HEEF website to submit an online application.


National Hispanic Foundation for the Arts


The National Hispanic Foundation for the Arts offers scholarship support to Latinas pursuing graduate degrees at either the University of California at Los Angeles or the University of Southern California. To be eligible, an applicant must have a GPA of at least 3.0, must be a United States citizen and must be able to demonstrate financial need. In addition, an applicant must be pursuing a degree related to drama, theater, film or the entertainment industry.


Hispanic Scholarship Fund


Although the Hispanic Scholarship Fund is a national organization, it makes scholarship money available to Latina students living in southern California through the HSF/Cien Años Scholarship. This scholarships is awarded in amounts ranging from $1,250 to $10,000, as of 2011. To be eligible, an applicant must be at least 21 at the time of application, must have a GPA of at least 3.0 on a scale of 4.0, and must be attending school in either southern California or Arizona.


School-Specific Organizations


Several organizations make scholarships available to Latinas pursuing degrees at specific southern California institutions. For example, the Latino Faculty, Staff, and Student Association of California Polytechnical Institute in Pomona offers scholarships of between $250 and $500 to attending Latina students. The Southern California UC Berkeley Chicano Latino Alumni Association makes tuition assistance available to undergraduate Latina students. Latinas attending the University of Southern California should consider the USC Latino Alumni Association, which awards annual scholarships ranging from $500 to $5,000, as of 2011.
